jane eyre
fiction | classic | 5/5this is not the type of books i usually read, but one day i found myself devouring this masterpiece, deeply invested in the characters' arc.
i sifted through this substantial novel as fast as i could, devouring its considerable length of over 600 pages in a couple of weeks (i didn't know how long the book was initially since i was reading an ebook version). that long journey was definitely worth it thanks to the clever and unpredictable plot twist at the end of the book carefully engineered by brontë.
the romance between jane and mr. rochester is the heart of the novel, a fiery and intense connection that is as much a meeting of minds as it is of hearts. their relationship is fraught with obstacles, from social class differences to a dark secret that threatens to tear them apart. the gothic elements of the story, with the mysterious thornfield hall and its hidden secrets, add a layer of suspense and intrigue, creating the perfect blend for a compelling novel.
brontë's prose is rich and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the windswept moors and the opulent yet oppressive interiors of the victorian era.
reading this book was a real delight and a joy that i didn't experience since i last read zola's germinal.
